About Hot Rolled Steel

The hot-rolling process is used to manufacture a variety of merchant and special bar quality steel materials stocked by Jade Sterling Steel. It can be used as-is for many applications, while cold finishing provides options for achieving a more specific surface finish.

Hot rolled steel refers to a type of steel that is heated above its recrystallization temperature (around 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit) before being rolled into the required shape (flat, round, square, or hexagonal) and dimensions.

Unique Profiles available

Merchant Bar Quality Steel

Merchant Bar Quality (MBQ) is a cost-effective category of hot rolled carbon steel, produced to specific sizes with a carefully controlled chemical composition.

  • While it lacks the smooth finish of cold rolled steel, MBQ can offer outstanding value while providing suitable tolerance for a wide range of applications.

  • Hot rolled MBQ steel is commonly used in construction, manufacturing, and other heavy-duty structural applications where it is valued for its combination of predictable performance and low cost.

Special Bar Quality Steel

Special bar quality (SBQ) is a term that refers to hot rolled steel products that have been engineered to meet more exacting performance requirements.

  • Special bar quality material is often used in the manufacturing of components that require a superior surface.

  • We supply the full range of common size bar stock and custom sizes. Most of our stock is supplied in 20-foot lengths and custom lengths can be provided when required.

  • We maintain long standing relationships with most major mills, allowing us to offer our customers some of the most competitive prices in the industry.

  • Our large customer base for merchant bar quality steel bars and rounds allows us to keep a large inventory of standard grades and sizes in stock for quick, as-needed delivery.

Jade Sterling Steel’s Hot Rolled Steel Bar Stock

Jade Sterling Steel can meet customer requirements for many different grades and sizes of SBQ and MBQ steel. We also can provide no-grade MBQ to customers who do not require a specific grade and are looking for the least expensive alternative. Our team is here to help find the right materials for your budget and engineering requirements.
